Students Inside Albany

Jenna Raleigh attended Students Inside Albany May 5, 2010


Jenna Raleigh, a Junior at Cazenovia High School attended the Students Inside Albany conference on April 11 to 14, 2010. Students Inside Albany is designed to increase high school students' awareness of their responsibility in representative government and provide the tools necessary for meeting that responsibility.

The conference brought together high school students from across the state to learn about New York State government and how citizens can participate in the democratic process. Among the activities that Jenna participated in were interactive lectures: "How Does New York State Government Work?;" "Tips for Being A Successful Citizen Lobbyist;" "Open Government + Sunshine is the Best Disinfectant;"; "Role the Media Plays in NYS Politics;" "How to Use Technology for Effective Lobbying". Jenna also had the opportunity to "Shadow Senator David Valesky and Assembly member Bill Magee.

Jenna shared her experience of Students Inside Albany at the Annual Meeting of the Cazenovia League of Women Voters on June 9th at the Lincklaen House. The public was invited to attend.

Students Inside Albany is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York State Education Foundation, Inc. The Education Foundation is the educational and fund-raising arm of the League of Women Voters in New York State. It has a strong commitment to young people and to the promise of the continued success of democracy.
